Introduction

Patrick H Donohue

On November 8th, 2013, I successfully defended my doctoral thesis. Almost six years of my life to be able to say this:

Proving, once and for all, that I will do anything for a joke. Now, not everyone’s name can be humorously improved with a doctorate. These people may instead decide to pursue one for academic reasons. Both are noble pursuits and should be rewarded with cookies.

Anyway, I was happy to have the end of 2013 coincide with the end of my PhD. Now, 2014 is set to bring new challenges: A post-doc with a new PI to keep things interesting; Research projects in nuclear forensics; New (and some long overdue) publications; I even moved to a new office area. For various professional and personal reasons, it’s a welcome bit of serendipity to be able to stay at Notre Dame for another year.
